Surprised At How Many People Don't Cry

I observed a lot of people giving up their pets (surrendering) at an animal shelter and I would say that only maybe one in twenty five people showed any sorrow or emotion because of it. Most of the time it was like a normal business transaction. The ones that were really sad were the ones that brought their sick and old animals in to be put to sleep. Very few of those people didn't have a sad face.

The only time I cried while working at the shelter is when I had to bring in one of my cats to be euthanized. She was very sick and was in a lot of discomfort. Usually, I stay with my pets at the vets office while they are put down but this was a cat that I only had for two years and took from an older lady as a mission of mercy. I liked the cat but I just couldn't bear to watch her die where I worked. If I could have done it all over again, I would have taken the day off, brought her to the vet and stayed with her.
