One Of My Biggest Pet Peeves

This just irks me.

Why is it so common on television programs and movies (from as far back as the 40s and 50s it would seem) that we see a heavy, balding,  typically unattractive male partnered with a thin, well-dressed, conventionally attractive woman? I mean, I could give you at least 10 shows right now where this has happened. Yet we rarely IF EVER see a heavier, typically unattractive woman partnered with a dreamboat male.

Why is this?

It's one of those little subliminal messages in our media that seriously bugs me.

The Honeymooners started this thing.<br />
All other sitcoms have been trying to be the Honeymooners ever since. Starting with the Flintstones, which was actually proposed as "The Honeymooners in prehistoric times." No lie.

I couldn't agree more. The whole hot chick/ dumpy dud of a guy thing annoys me in the same way that it bothers me when women are nude or topless in love/sex scenes with fully clothed men! Aaarrrrggghh!

This seems to be true. "Roseanne" had two heavy folks, but mostly it is sloppy guys with skinny broads. That's kinda boring!
