Stop Telling Me How To Think!

The downward trend of North American media needs to be stopped. It desensitizes us to violence and death. It poisons our mind with idle gossip. It drives us to conform to the “social norm”…making us completely image-oriented and self-conscious. It creates eating disorders, forces us to focus on the negative, drives us to distrust our brothers, our neighbors and the world at large. It takes advantage of our ignorance, and in doing so warps our opinions based on biased information. It takes away our individuality, and our right to form an opinion by telling us what our opinion is. This in turn affects our intelligence and makes us second guess our view of life. It creates fear, and fear causes anger, anger causes hatred, hatred causes war and war causes death. If we continue to let the media manipulate us, we will all lose.

Glad to hear people are noticing the assault on our value systems by the North American media. I stopped watching when I noticed that I started feeling anxious, apprehensive and my heartbeat increased during the evening news. Every time.

I agree to some extent the issues you address. It doesn't help when government leaders themselves, lie to their people in order to align them in their false cause. Under blind loyalty and trust the citizenship carries out the invasion, murder, torture etc. of others under the cause of the day.

Hidden agendas of government's elite who believe they know better than those they represent
The innocent left behind with the consequences of such actions while the government elite walk away washing their hands of blood and a guiltless mind.
I agree that television especially has become a race to the bottom continuously trying to engender some emotion from its viewers to 'connect' with them and keep them watching.

It's emotional manipulation supreme. The creator of 60 minutes famously once said that the purpose of TV is to get you to watch something long enough so that they can interrupt you to sell a product and nothing more.

Still, burying you head in the sand because you don't like bad news is making the choice to become ignorant about the world around you.

There are plenty of really good news sources out there especially now that most are accessible via internet. The 'all new is bad' is a cop out for those that wish to live in ignorant bliss.
