Deny Thy Father And Refuse Thy Name; Or, If Thou Wilt Not, Be But Sworn My Love, And I'll No Longer Be A Capulet.

Were Romeo and Juliet acting selfishly when they committed suicide? Or were their families the selfish ones for not putting aside their differences, for letting it get that far, for not being willing to go against the way things had always been, for assuming that everything was fine - would be fine in the end as it always had been?

They didn't kill themselves because they didn't care about what their families would feel after they were dead. It was because their families didn't care about what they felt while they were alive...or at least not enough to accept it or take it seriously.
