I agree, sometimes people mean well, but they don't say anything to show it. I must admit that I can get kind of at a loss for words, especially if it's a woman who's going through a bad time. Even so, I don't think I've ever asked the obvious, just offered my assistance if there's anything I can do.

I remember the last time I was in this position, I gal I knew had just broke up and I witnessed it. She sat down against the wall and started crying as soon as he left. What could I say? There wasn't anything to say, but to watch her cry was only going to make her feel worse, so I sat down next to her and held her hand. neither said anything and in time she smiled a weak smile and went on her way. it was a few days later before she came and told me thanks for just understanding and not saying anything...

    I know they meant well.

Even asking "what is wrong?" is a lot better then

    "Is there something wrong?"

I am a pretty sensitive person. Sad movies, songs.. even sappy Hallmark commercials can open the flood gates. LOL, But I would rather not let anyone see. LOL.

If it something serious I just hang low for awhile. And talk to love ones about what is making me sad.

    But on the lighter side,..

I can just see someone asking me .."What is wrong?" being as sincere as can be, and me replying something like this" I just watched Toy story part two AGAIN ( I have kids) and Jessie was put in donation box... It was so sad, the song she sings OMG!.." sniffle sniffle. he he he.

    Yes even Disney!

    Thank you Strawsandink. :)

They probably just wanted to make sure that you wanted help in the first place. I have asked people before when they were crying what was wrong and they got really angry. By asking such a question they were probably just testing the waters. If that happens to you again and you really do want help, it would probably be best to give an honest answer.

Hopefuly you won't be in that sort of situation any time soon :)

take care and thanks for posting
