I Don't Answer the Phone When I Don't Want to

It's Not That I Don't Like My Friends...

It's just sometimes, when I'm dealing with my own stuff, it's such an effort to pick up the phone when it rings, and talk to someone and pretend that I'm not upset about something else... So I just don't answer. I feel terrible, but I just don't know if I could sit and make small talk with old friends...

    Exactly... Cell phones have made us feel like we have to be available all the time, every day. Sometimes... I just don't feel available. That's all.

    I hardly ever answer the phone when I don't want to. You don't have to answer just because it rings, and you shouldn't feel oblidged to make small talk when you don't feel like it. Don't feel bad about it, like you said, you're dealing with your own stuff, and that's important too.
