SimplicityWell, I'm here now so I guess it's no use complaining about this time period. But I really do feel out of place here. I long for a simpler time. Life is really complicated today. If you think about it, modern life is all about paperwork. You have to have the right papers to do anything (a passport paper, a college degree paper, little green pieces of paper that most of us worship far too often, etc).
I would be really happy just to fish everyday for my food, come home to a loving wife and kids and just spend my days surrounded by friends and family, dying peacefully at a ripe old age, skin blemished by a lifetime of sun and saltwater.
There's a line in the Tao Te Ching:
Keep your mouth closed
and embrace a simple life,
and you will live care-free until the end of your days.
How I hunger for such a life!
