Still a Fan

It doesn't change my opinion of him.  He's still one of my favorite athletes and one of the best athletes in the world.

I'm sure he regrets putting himself in that situation.  It wasn't the best idea to publicly smoke in front of college kids - some that he barely knew - armed with camera phones.  I bet some jealous guy couldn't wait to sell that picture to the highest bidder.  Everyone makes mistakes in their youth.  I know I've made plenty already.  So he can't be blamed for being a typical 20-something guy.

One thing I don't understand is why popular people, especially celebrities, tend to be the biggest drug users.  Take Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan.  You'd think they would be high on their lives.  But instead they partied to the point of needing rehab.  The same goes for the popular people in high school and college, like frats and sororities.  They're always the ones that drink themselves to oblivion and party all the time.  Most of them are privileged in a lot of ways.  You'd think they wouldn't need to alter their state of mind.

Very well stated.

I cuoldn't care less what he does. He's a great athlete and he should be let have his own life.

I definitely think everyone was too harsh on Michael Phelps. So he made a mistake. Haven't we all?
