No Direction In Life...

W hat can I say? I'm just another poor sap who doesn't know what to do with himself. I'm almost 22 years old, and I'm at a complete loss as to what I'm going to do for a living.

Like most people, I too had plenty of unrealistic dreams when I was a kid; dreams about becoming "rich" and "successful". As a kid I really didn't give much thought as to how I'd obtain such success. Every now and then I'd think to myself "oooh, I'll become a Commercial Airline Pilot", or "I know! I'll be a Big-Shot Businessman", never realizing just how difficult--if not impossible--it was to become those things. Years later I would come to learn that the job market for commercial airline pilots is extremely small, and that the only plausible way to even have a chance at getting a high-paying pilot job would involve military training, since civilian training is much too expensive. Now, I would consider joining the military, but I have been diagnosed with asthma, so they wouldn't take me. To become a big time businessman would require that I be a work-a-holic, ultra smart, business prodigy with a degree from an elitist ivy-league school. So yeah, my childhood dream jobs turned out to be as unrealistic as becoming an astronaut or a pro football player.

I always hated going to school, simply because it bored me to death. After high school, I moved out of my parents house in Washington down to South Florida to attended community college (I figured going to a 4-year University straight out of high school was a waste of money). Since I didn't know what to major in, I randomly selected Accounting. Of course it didn't take long for me to realize that Accounting wasn't my cup of tea. Aside from Tax Law, Accounting is the most boring, tedious, and stressful job on the planet. I'd rather dig ditches for a living! After earning my 2-year degree, I decided that it would be a good idea for me to take a year off from school to just work. I figured that being out in the workforce for a while would allow me to explore my interests and weigh my options. After moving back into my parents house in Washington, I was eager to start my grand journey towards finding myself. 

Well, it's been about 2 years now, and I'm still as clueless as ever. I've researched countless careers, ranging from Actuarial Statistics, to Pharmaceuticals, to Aero-Space Engineering. Nothing out there seems to be right for me, absolutely nothing. Right now I'm giving Criminal Justice a shot, but I'm pretty sure it won't work out. I'm just so stressed out, I can't figure out what to do. Here I am, still living with my parents, and I feel as though I've explored every career option. My situation has lead me into a deep state of depression, and I feel that there's no way out....I don't want to sound like a childish/emo douche bag, but I've seriously considered suicide as a permanent solution.

I hate the fact that I still live with my parents, I hate the fact that I'm still single, I hate the fact that most of my peers from high school have moved on to successful lives--while I'm left behind in loserdom, I hate the fact that every career I've researched has proven to be a total waste of time, and I hate the feeling of being "trapped". %@&*!!!!

 

Well, thanks to those out there who actually took the time to read my long-winded, whiny diatribe. I guess this is just a good way for me to vent. If anyone has any tips/pointers to help me, I would greatly appreciate them.
