Those Who Speak Vs. Those Who Listen.

I feel it's either the perfect combination or a potential "sado-maso" relationship. Some people tell me I never talk about myself, others tend to compliment my "ability to never worry or complain about anything". Obviously, I'm a listener. I think there are 2 types of listeners: those that don't speak out of compassion, and those less honest, who's silence involves certain amount of selfishness, lack of trust, hypocrisy... In reality, I think my closeted attitude in this matter may not be the best way to go, but it certainly brings the least harm to both sides. If you don't have the need to speak out, and others don't really mind that you don't, everybody wins. But if they do want to hear what you have to say, one side remains unsatisfied. I feel real friendships are worth the effort of opening your mouth and putting a little part of your heart out there. Anything less than a real friendship leaves you the right of being selfish and doing what you feel is best for you.
