In my young lifetime, I have attended many churches, and I have been disappointed in many of them. I understand that NO church is perfect, but I am beginning to think that it's just not for me.
My view of God has been severely thwarted and diseased by the so-called "loving nature" of the people in these buildings. I just want to be able to get to a point where I can go and not be so taken by their opinions of me and my "faith".
And before you comment: I KNOW all churches aren't the same. I KNOW God is in my heart. I KNOW I DON'T need church to be closer to God. I KNOW church is what you make it. YADDA YADDA YADDA. Spare me.

My grandma was a very wise lady, and a faithful servant to God. When I was growing up, I used to complain to her that I didn't like going to church because I didn't like a lot of the people there. Her response really surprised me, and I guess that's why I never forgot it. She said to me, if you go to church and you are distracted by your negative feelings for the people and your surroundings then it is better that you just don't go. This coming from a woman who never missed a mass...EVER! She actually advised me to stop going to church for awhile until I could figure out a way to focus solely on my own spirituality, and nothing else. She said that as long as I am in that pew and distracted by negative feelings, then I'm not there for God. And if I'm not there for God, then I'm going to church in vain. At the time I was having problems getting along with other people in my church, ie typical high school blah blah, ya know. She was actually pretty cool about the whole thing. Grandma's belief was that God knows your heart no matter where you are, or what you're doing. You don't have to be in a church to get close to God. Also, you can keep looking until you find that one church that calls you "home". I've struggled with my spirituality for years. I still haven't found the church for me yet, but I still have faith that I will. I'll bet you find your spiritual place someday too. Maybe it's like love, when you stop looking for it, it just happens. =)
