I Hate Television...

I hate when someone asks "Have you seen ________"...when they've asked 654654 times before, and know I dont watch tv, or even own cable. Sometimes I feel bad, because Im 23, I sound like Im 83. I dont know how to use a remote, I dont know anything about cable or how to navigate 500 channels. If I ever have kids, they probably wont watch television either. Its bad for the brain and body. At work, they would have the tv show "The View" on, and I am just disgusted by the oppinionated fat cows on there who've never experienced anything they talk about. Why would I pay $150 a month to watch that crap? YUCK!

wrong again you mean i can't type not can't spell and i never said i could do either or that i learned either by watching TV <br />
<br />
you completly missed what i said about monitoring all of what i said had to do with monitoring what kids whatch on TV and the fact that you would rather never let them watch TV than to have to monitor what they do watch <br />
<br />
i never said TV was a substitute for parenting other activities or anything about sitting them in front of the tube and doing nothing else <br />
<br />
i said it COULD be part of creativity and imagination as well as learning not the ONLY way for any of those<br />
<br />
it's interesting that despite the personal experiences and fact laid out there you still think ALL TV=BAD who is really brainwashed???? <br />
<br />
i am not stuck in the 50's but you might be according to your own words you "dont know how to use a remote, I dont know anything about cable or how to navigate 500 channels."<br />
<br />
this is not a TV debate as much as it is a tecnological debate and where else is he going to learn <br />
<br />
and you don;t know what your kid will do because you haven't met them yet and i hope all your kids are born wired LOVING TV begging for TV happiest in fron of the TV why because you the parent need the education not your kid <br />
<br />
and as many things as you plan to do with him he'll burn out at age 11 from too many actvities <br />
<br />
not to mention what's better teaching him limits to TV video games and gadgets or him flunking out of college because you never let him have either and he goes off on his own and all the sudden there's TV and there's video games and this world is exciting <br />
<br />
Not to mention unless you want your kid to be computer illiterate at 18 he's going to have to have both PC and internet access so you tube my space and facebook are better than TV yeah right to say nothing of if they want it they will find a way to get it no matter how good a kid you think you have or how good a parent you think you are

And you may have learned your alphabet, but you sure cant spell. o_O

And I just cant get over how you think not watching tv is technologically backwards. You must be stuck in the 50s. Truely, there is so much more out there. Open your sleepy eyes...

Aw, good try again Tulick "and parents like the author don't want to monitor so they make it easier in themselves"<br />
<br />
--Seriously, whats with you!? I dont want to monitor my kids? Are you serious? Really!? Is that why I am making conscience effort to finish college before having children, get married before having children, wanting to spend at least the first 6 years of their lives at home with them while my husband works, and maybe homeschooling them or sending them to a private school. I dont want to monitor my kids? I look forward to the day I sit down with my kid and explain all sorts of science and math to them, considering those are my strongpoints. <br />
<br />
I get that you think its ok just to sit your kid in front of the tube and let them "imagine" and "wonder" what the hell is going on, but dont bash me because I want to spend quality time with my kids and I want to be able to explain the world to them. <br />
<br />
My kid will not sit in front of a tv learning to be social. I will be enrolling him (hopefully a him) into extra curricular activities, where he can get excersize and meet peers. My kid will not learn creativity from tv, I will give them paints, papers, crayons, pastels and actually sit and draw with them. My kid will learn life lessons through spending time with his family, learn to cook, learn to fix things, learn morals, learn how to live life and be productive. I will ask my child questions and hone in on his strong points and make him a better person. <br />
<br />
I am very sorry you think a tv can give you all that. It doesnt replace parenting, but 90% of the world thinks it does.

and parents like the author don't want to monitor so they make it easier in themselves <br />
<br />
they think EVERYTHING on TV is the view and desparate housewives and they seem to have some sort of prejidice against fat people <br />
<br />
so as if they are something to emulate

Oh sorry i beg your pardon :)<br />
<br />
My son watches TV, as do a lot of kids, but i monitor what he watches and make sure he isnt tuning<br />
into anything not appropriate for his age<br />
<br />
I suppose balance in all things hey...?<br />
<br />
...i still find it boring though, but then again i am not him......or you.....:)<br />
<br />
x

no the anti tv movement makes me angry purposely barring kids from it and making them all the wrong kind of social out cast makes me angry taking a way a life skill learning tool makes me angry not the TV

...it appears it can also make one angry :)

wether or not i or anyone is a 400 LB lard, which i'm not has NOTHING to do with TV I HATE desparate housewives and you can persue a career and watch TV as well you know when you come home from work on weekends <br />
<br />
TV does not brain wash you and as someone who grew up watching TV i can tell you the POSITIVES of watching TV i learned a good chunck of my alphabet watching wheel of fortune jepardy and who wants to be a millionare have a host of wonderful facts you can learn without having to read everything in your local library <br />
<br />
TV can help kids who speak another laguage learn english i know a grandmother who's grandson is learning spanish from watching dorah and deago <br />
<br />
TV CAN did and STILL does fuel my creativity i don't know how many short story ideas and poetry lines were a result of something seen or heard on TV <br />
<br />
Shows like CSI and law and order have sparked an interest in forensic science and crimanal justice <br />
<br />
there was a kid who wanted to be just like jay leno who did mock tonight shows in his living room w/ the family video camera <br />
<br />
I get pissed when i hear people who are willing to rob thier kids of the potential imagination growth because they are convinced that TV is horrible when it is not and kids deserve the chance to explore ALL vehicles to their imagination INCLUDING TV!

Nice try Tulick, except television isnt the new wave of technology, and it doesnt fuel creativity. Creativity comes from yourself, not brain dead things on the tube. Luckily, I have this wonderful other technology that is called the computer and a blackberry, thats how I get weather updates. And I live in a city, tornados dont happen here. Im not bitching about propoganda, if you didnt like my post **** off and read something you do like *** hole. Im sorry you think television is the new best thing out there to fuel creativity and intellegence, you are probably a 400 lb fat lard that watches desperate housewives while ignoring your family and reality. Just because I refuse to be brainwashed by television doesnt mean you have to get all mad about it. I am actually pursuing a career instead of following up on everyones tv shows. How the hell does someone get pissed that another person doesnt like tv? You are awesome Tulick, bra ******* vo.

oh yes make your kids technologically backwards <br />
<br />
never let anything fuel their imagination <br />
<br />
rob them of the news because by the time you have kids the newspaper will be dead <br />
<br />
how do you get weather reports, or do you just plan to let the tornado land on your house <br />
<br />
TV is neither bad for your brain or your body but people want to make you belive that the same people usually bitching about the propaganda put forth by TV when they are just as guilty <br />
<br />
TV does not kill conversation as demonstrated in this story someone tried to start a conversation and the author got irritated because "she doesn't watch TV" she killed the conversation not the other person <br />
<br />
and what does being fat have to do with anything just because you don't like the opinion being expressed

Good for you!! TV is a drug and sends me to sleep......booooooooring.....<br />
<br />
It kills conversation, passion and turns people into zombies!!<br />
<br />
:)
