Posted Feb 2nd, 2008 at 12:04PM there was one profile that was trying to get people to come on their public access program (which isn't so bad, bc some people might be interested, but still a little shady), and then there was another one that was selling soldering equipment, then i saw one yesterday that was from another random business, i can't remember what they were selling now....
Posted Feb 2nd, 2008 at 12:16PM well i think it would be kind of different if you had your own personal profile and had made friends in your own right and then also created a group saying "i make and sell ____ " and then if people came to you and wanted to buy it, then great! but setting up a profile purely in the name of a business interest and then accosting strangers with spam-y mail is a horse of a different colour.
Posted Feb 2nd, 2008 at 6:24PM I agree with treefrogz. It's a bit much to be hit by a sales pitch, particularly by someone who you don't know. If it WAS someone I knew, that would be another matter entirely. I'd simply just e-mail them and resolve it privately, but anyone can be targeted and hit just by scanning stories that have been posted, and that's where I start to see a little red. I'm not here to be sold something, and I think it really devalues the whole purpose of EP in the first place, which is to connect and communicate with people. In my case, this one person took a look at a few of my stories, decided I would be a suitable purchaser of their product, and then added me to their circle AND pitched me at the same time. I have not reported them, YET, but I figured I would at least raise the alarm so as to make sure that this sort of thing gets headed off at the pass SOONER, rather than LATER. Thank you all for your comments. Sincerely, marcus
