I'm sort of really frightened about dating. I'm 19 yrs old and just got out of my first serious relationship :/ thought we were going to be together forever, or at least a really really long time. Now I'm in college and everyone around me is pretty much grown-up and mature when it comes to going on dates, having "rules" about date contact (i.e. no kiss on first date, maybe sex by the 10th date etc) and that SCARES the hell out of me. My first and only serious relationship so far started out as best-friendship and so it was pretty easy now that I look back and compare it to this serious, grown-up version of getting attached to guys. I really am a fan of the get-to-know-people/hang out way of doing things. I try to be open-minded but the real world of romance just scares me. Do you have any advice? Is it as scary and mature as I think? I'm a person who gets afraid when there are expectations (like if a guy is used to having casual sex before feeling love) and expectations seem inherent in dating. Please calm me down! I just wish all guys could share my viewpoint, I feel like I'll have trouble finding a loving relationship again because I prefer the 16-yr-old way of doing things -- friendship, hanging out, talking/texting, then a traditional "will you be my girlfriend" and the world doesn't work that way, does it? :/
