Do You Know What It Means To Be In Love?

Does anyone out there know what it feels like? I’m dead serious. I’ve been asking myself this question over the past few days and I can not get an answer that makes sense to me and my logical side.

See, I’m a child of the 80s (ok I was born in the 70s), and I remember waking up before dawn to watch a commoner take a long, slow walk up a red-carpeted aisle to her waiting Prince. She was young, barely 15 years older than me at the time, and she had been thrust into the spotlight only 5 months before, when their engagement was announced. At the first formal interview, they were asked, “…and, of course, in love,” to which she replied, very demurely, “Of course.” Her groom chimed in immediately, and with a bit of a laugh, “Whatever ‘in love’ means.”

There are times when I feel like that demure 20 year-old with big blue eyes and her whole life, literally, mapped out in front of her, still young and hopeful enough to think that this was the man for her. There are times, however, when I am as cynical as the man who was standing next to her, whose answer to that question was parsed for its prescience when their divorce was announced and certainly in the years since her death in that tunnel in Paris.

There are times, to carry on the royal theme, when I feel like a Slumbering Beauty, waking after a century of sleep, to find the face of the one who fought and survived, hovering over her. There are times when I feel so very much like the fighter, ready to claim my prize (I’ll just ignore the times I wanted to quit and turn back when the thorns got too thick).

There are times when I feel like the Perfect Submissive. There are times when I feel like the Dominant Master.

There are times I need to be one-on-one. There are times I need a puppy-pile of humans.

There are times where you confuse me.

There are times when I confuse you.

There are times when you get me.

There are times when I get you

Does any of this sound like love?

no, it sounds like a criminal and a police man

Really? Hmmm. Could be an analogy that's missing. Are you playing on the opposites or is this an experience you've had in the Game of Love (as much as I dislike that phrase)?
