Kids...

I catch so much crap for not wanting kids. I tell people that my husband and myself are not PLANNING on kids, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I do like kids...but I can't help and joke about "Birth Control Reason #25662" when a kid is throwing a tantrum in a grocery store.

My husband and I feel mutually about this, there's a list of reasons. The main one being, don't want to.

Nice to find a place where others don't.

Heck I have kids and now grand kids . I been to China and India . They have zero population growth rate? Even Delaware has big farms. Why is it everyone lives in town? Get knocked up and join the human race.

I'm just playing devils advocate. Don't take me serious. Marymarthazetta

I completely hear you on this one. Obviously, I don't hate kids, as I was one myself. It's just that it is a ton of work, and it greatly restricts the time that you can have for yourself.

One big thing that I simply cannot stress enough is that the world's population is dangerously high, and so is its growth rate. Society likes to think that the whole point of human life is to reproduce, but under these conditions, this is nowhere even near the truth. Maybe many thousands of years ago, when people had a much lower survival rate due to extreme vulnerability, I could see how it could be important. But under the current circumstances, it cannot possibly be neccessary or even GOOD for the human race if everyone reproduces. So it should be seen as a blessing that some people are not going to reproduce. If anything, there should be MORE people who don't reproduce.

So, maybe the increasing numbers of non-kid-wanting people could be thought of as a natural way to LIMIT reproduction, and save the world. It is certainly a much nicer method of restraint on the population than disease.

Plus, we human beings are what ecologists would call a "K-Strategist" species, meaning that our primary aim is to ensure the survival of existing members, and that making new members is of secondary concern. For an "R-Strategist" species, reproduction is the primary aim in life, due to extreme vulnerability.

I think it's way better to just like kids in general but be able to go home to a nice, quiet home that's all your own personal space and not have to worry about someone being dependant on you.

Society's view is that people should procreate. Well done for being someone that can stand up and say you'll make up your own mind on the matter.

I did give the impression in what I said that since my husband doesn't want kids, I don't want them either.

I've decided this long before my husband and myself even met. I was just lucky to find a guy that felt the same way. It goes a lot deeper than "not being able to have free time" and "being able to manage the kids".

I do respect your point of view, Neur0ticism.

Oh also.. some guys do want kids, although I understand your reasoning, it makes complete sense. Some men actually want kids, they feel fullfilled having a family. Having a son to carry on the family name as well.

Walmart . Gathering Place. Idiocracy Reflection in Mirrors.

I'm sick and tired of people asking me all the time when we'll have kids (I'm 30, he's 35),as if it's perfectly ok to ask such a personal question! I can't have kids and we don't want kids, we don't want to go through the trouble of doing the invitro, etc.
I get frustrated with people that do have kids, some parents are awesome and I give them props for that but a lot just let their kids run around a store, cry, beat each other, scream...don't even get me started with kids at restaurants!! I wish people had to pass an IQ test before they were allowed to have children.

The only thing that scares me is to think, what if the only people breeding are the dumb ones? and that's when the human race is going to start declining. I think it's already happening a little, just go sit in the parking lot at Walmart and you'll see what I mean ;)
Have you guys seen "Idiocracy"?

All I hope is that because of this growing population of couples refusing to have children; is that we don't start the apocalyse and end up not being able to replenish our population, although some people believe that the world should only have one million humans and some believe we're overpopulated.

You'd be surprised, with all the nasty deaths around the corner waiting for us, how fast six billion can turn into a small number and get even smaller because of those deaths. Disease has a nasty way of taking a chunk out.

That is my only concern when it comes to couples choosing or refusing to have children. I wonder how much men have spun that one around women too. Men don't like children, naturally. Swagonwheels and my father proved that to me.

The reason men don't like children is the fact that they want to have sex without a consequence. Plus yes, you're right, a child takes up a parents free time, however, my parents will tell you that for me, it didn't. If they wanted sex, they told me to go downstairs and watch movies all day, with snacks and toys and guess what, they went to go do whatever it is they like.

No babysitters, notta.

So if you can't manage your kids then I don't know what to say other than... Learn to. XD

I'm not against you, but I'm not supporting of this either. More and more women these days are having problems getting pregnant because of what's in our water supply and food. That scares me too.

I'm undecided as to whether or not I want kids. I believe I do want them, but I'm scared because I was abused and the cycle usually continues, plus, the worse the world gets, the more I wonder...

Thank you, timanonymous!

My husband and I ALSO have a running list of reasons why we don't want kids. It grows more every day.
