Well, you have a long, long way to go before that will become a reality, but it is good that you are thinking about it now. There are things that you can do, to ensure you will grow old healthy and strong, or at least to be relatively strong and healthy; but you need to start NOW. Eat properly. Don't smoke or use drugs. Drink alcohol moderately, if at all. Drink a lot of water and limit your intake of caffeine and sugars and salt. Keep physically fit, take care of your teeth, do as many mental gymnastics as you can Crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, word games and math games and anything else that keeps your mind lubricated. You can grow old, and enjoy it. But you can't start taking care of yourself when you are in your 50s. By then there is too much damage done. Start now.

I know exactly what you mean.. I am really afraid of flying, but managed to get over it by thinking "well if the plane crashes, I won't get old".. I saw my grandmother live her last 10 years unable to help herself. During her last year, she couldn't even recognize me. I think that's where my fear of growing old comes from. I comfort myself by thinking she might have been happy being surrounded by people that loved her. If she felt that, I hope I will do too..

I had an aunt who lived to be nearly 98 years old. She was mentally and physically pretty good. Her worst problem was that she missed her husband who died 12 years before she did. Being old and alone and infirm, is I am sure very unpleasant. But then, so is being young and alone and infirm.
