I Quit

I stopped drinking last year. I was depressed and it was the only thing that I enjoyed. Is that even the right word? Even though it made things worse in actuality and I had several hangovers from hell, I just had to have my drink. Feeling numb was good and the days passed by like dominoes.

A fondness for alcohol is in my genes apparently. Well, whatever it is, I was starting to crave it more. So, I knew I couldn't go down that path, and when new years came, I decided to quit. After a few lapses, I stopped completely and after a while, I felt great. I started getting fit again and my brain wasn't in a fog. No more stomach aches that felt like I'd been winded.

But dammit, tonight, I really want a drink.

Wow, it's weird to read this. I'd almost forgotten how it was.<br />

I can and do enjoy a drink nowadays. The difference from back then is, I'm not the absolutely depressed mess I was.
