Late Pick Up!

I was returning home real late one day (about 2 a.m.) after a long shift at the TV station and I thought of grabbing a cup of tea by the sea. I got my tea and while I was driving back home I thought I saw a family of four (Dad, Mom, 2 babies) with supermarket bags waiting on the side of the road for a cab. I didn't believe my eyes the first time. What would a family with 2 babies do on the corniche at 2 a.m. in the morning? This is crazy. And weird. But if they were really there, they should know that they'd never find a cab at this late hour. Not in this country anyway.
I U-turned and told myself, if I see them again I should probably pick them up. Of course it is not an easy thing to do, especially I am a woman, alone, at this late hour, and they are two adults with baggage. But because they had babies I thought it is impossible they'd do a crazy thing. Anyway, I like to do weird things at times to help people, so I drove back. And there they were. A mom and dad, two babies, and lots of supermarket bags.
I stopped the car. They were surprised when they saw me. I asked them if they needed a ride. They were very polite people. They simply said they're waiting for a taxi. I told them a taxi will never pass by at this hour. Not empty anyway.
Long story short, I drove them home and had a nice chat anyway. It was a strange night. But it felt really good afterwards :)
