Fernando Botero is a Baroque artist from Colombia. He grew up without the influence of having seen traditional art in his childhood. His large rotund figures punctuate his style and eye for the beauty of the human form in a way that is uniquely his. You may have seen his work without knowing who the artist was.
His series on the Abu Ghraib was a heartrending expose on the pain and humiliation inflicted on the prisoners. You should check it out if you haven't seen it. Its a bit graphic to display here, so I will instead post his "Adam and Eve" painting.
