To Love Or Not To Love...

my senior year in high school, 2 years ago... we read Hamlet. my teacher gave us an assignment to rewrite the "to be or not to be" soliloquy. this is my re-made soliloquy called "To love or not to love..." (which btw, i got 100% on)

To love or not to love
That is the question
Whether ’tis nobler in the soul to suffer
The pain and heartache of outrageous fortune
Or to trust against a sea of broken promises
And by forgiving end them. To need, to hate-
No more- and by a hate to say we end
The loneliness and the great yearning
That emotions are heir to. ’Tis a belonging
Devoutly to be wished. To need, to hate;
To hate perchance to protect. Ay, there’s the rub,
For in that hate of love what walls may build,
When we have shuffled off these unstable emotions,
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of such long emptiness.
For who would bear the thorns and knives of love,
The oppressor’s rejection, the proud man’s reputation,
The pangs of unreturned love, the joy’s delay,
The innocence of a kiss, and the jealousy
That affection merit of th’ unworthy takes,
When he himself might his depression make
With a love so deep? Who would fardels bear,
To be numb and unnoticed under a weary life,
But that the dread of hurt after hate,
The undiscovered infatuation from whose bourn
No heart returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than give a chance to others whose intention we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all.
