    Hi,

I suffered from EE for 20 years with symptoms getting worse and worse every year until beginning 8 years ago I was regularly hospitalized unable to even swallow spit. I had emergency endoscopic procedures to remove jammed pieces of meat from the locked up esophagus.

Hardly a day went buy without major swallowing difficulties breakfast, lunch and dinner. Life was a living nightmare bent over the toilet or nearby bush gagging to bring up trapped food and even liquids.

My EE was confirmed by biopsy a few years ago. Up till then I did not know what exactly was wrong with me. I just knew the problem was getting worse.

I was medicated to the max on proton pump inhibitors, asthma preventers etc etc c. They did nothing to help me.

I have FOUND THE CURE for my EE. Yes cure. It cost me nothing and I have been symptom free for over twelve months. Yes, not one choking episode.

I cured my EE by accident whilst attempting to improve my cardiac health. I was diagnosed with serious narrowing of 4 major arteries of the heart. These arteries were so bad and the plaques so long that I was not offered any cure. Stents or bypass were ruled out. I was simply placed on even more buckets of pills. I felt rotten and I was only 47 at that time.

I read some great books like Sweet Poison, and The Great Cholesterol Lie. I found the reason for the heart trouble was inflammation. The cause of the inflammation SUGAR. I removed all sugar (sucrose, fructose and combinations of these) from my diet. All my cardiac symptoms have vanished over the last 12 months and I went from taking tons of drugs to just 100 mg aspirin per day(as insurance). No more statins, no ace inhibitors, no GTN no nexium, no flixotode. I'm basically drug free. My blood pressure went from 150/98 on drugs to 130/75 off drugs.

The side effect of this simple but extremely important diet change was my EE simply went away. EE sufferers will know that congested feeling in the throat/chest that was omnipresent. Well that sensation has gone.

My conclusion - EE is caused by a systemic inflammation. In my case I had circulatory system inflammation, EE, dermatitis, bronchial asthma. I now suffer from NONE of the above.

Don't underestimate the damage sugar, juice, soft drinks most processed foods are doing to your body and causing the afflictions I have described above.

I now also take L Arginine combined with L Citrolene to undo the vessel damage. Google Dr Prendagast and you can read about these amino acids. They may also be part of the repair I have experienced with EE but I know the elimination of sugar had been the main cure for me.

Hi Kay, Yes Eosinophilic Esophagitis or EE for short. Hard to pronounce but if you go to a web site that actually gives you the audio of the pronunciation then you will be able to say it. Even when the doctor told me what it was I asked him to write it down for me so that I could search the web for information on this condition. Not much is known about this condition but they are monitering on it's triggers. I was told by my doctor that it could be anything. I went for a gluten test and it showed that it was fine. No one really knows for sure what triggers it. I'm just glad the doc is giving me some options to control it. I've not had any incidents since I've gone on the flovent and the previcid for my acid reflux. The previcid that I get is the one that disolves in your mouth, once a day. The flovent I due two puffs to the back of the throat and swallow (don't inhale) about 3 times a day, about an hour before I eat, or I can do it after I eat. It's like an anti inflammatory which calmes the throat. I'm glad that I have a doctor that understand this conditon cause there is not many out there. Anyhow I've put down a website for you to check out and it may explain some of the symtoms that you might have. No harm in checking it out. Let me know how you get on with your results. take care. :o))

Wow, is what I feel after reading all your comments, especially your story, suntashie! I don't know if your title is spelled correctly, but I sure haven't heard of EE before. I had asked a question when I first got on to EP, about anyone here having acid reflux/gallbladder problems, and received a few, supportive responses. I've had heartburn for quite a long time, also, congestion and hoarse throat, always thinking it was postnasal drip and sinus problems. As a Navy veteran, I've been going to local VA Clinics in NH, and to GI specialists, trying to figure out the cause. I have had the colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, showing a hiatal hernia. I've had the barium-swallowing x-ray, and now having gallbladder ultrasound test (normal) and next week, a scanning of the gallbladder and liver functioning. A couple of medications taken caused a major rash reaction, and am trying Nexium (which some of my home-cleaning clients think is a wonder drug!). The 20mg hasn't helped me that much, so maybe the 40mg will....we'll see.

Let's really stay connected and support each other, because that is so important!

When I go to the VA, I will see if I can ask the specialist who ordered these tests if she knows about EE. She thinks my gallbladder is the cause, but it is definitely a challenge to figure it all out.

    Talk to you all later!

    Kay

Oh my goodness! I was diagnosed with EE three years ago! It's tough. It can take control of your life if you don't take care of yourself. Watching what you eat, taking medication, and having supportive people around REALLY make a difference! I've been so moved by EE that I'm working on an article about it. I'm discussing what it is, how it's diagnosed, how it can be treated, and I'm working with a young girl who also has it. She's only 5 years old. Would you want to be a part of this? I'd love to get another perspective on it. Let me know!

Hi Barb, Thanks for writing. I know it's a hard thing to accept but we all do things in life to survive. Your son is very lucky that he's supported by all his family. The throat stretching was the worst experience I've had so far. I feel for your son. I've had a total of 7 procedures. I was told because of scarring the scar tissue is harder to deal with. For me it has helped me alot which I'm thankful for. It was only after the 6th time that the doctor started to question why I kept swelling in the upper part. He's actually a good doc. He started asking his other colleagues and kept poking till it all dawned on them that I had EE. Like I said I have had a life of bad habits and the damage has been done to my esophagus, but I'm learning more and more. I asked my doctor to send me for a gluten test and am waiting for the results. I have eliminated most wheat products and have felt alot better for it. We'll see how that goes. When I find out what the results are I'll post. Your right, your son is so young he shouldn't have to start taking medications yet. With all the chemicals in medications today you never know how it will affect you in life later on. Thanks again and good luck with your son.

My son is 11 and was diagnosed about 8 months ago with EE. Immediatly they wanted to stretch his esophagus and put him on numerous medications. After his first stretching my husband and I were upset at the amount of pain he was in. The doctors could not tell me what long term effects that medication would have. But they insisted that because it was so severe without medication we couldn't get this under control. We tried allergy testing and they couldn't pinpoint a specific allergy. We were very frustrated. We decided to do an elimination diet of our own vegan with no dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, no corn, no wheat . It was hard but we did it as a family. We just got my son scoped today and the doctor could not believe that we had accomplished such an improvement in his esophagus. I know that every case is a little different and some choose the medication but since my son is only 11 and I know that medication is only temporary. We will be able to add foods slowly back to find ones he can tolerate but there is hope. I am trying to teach my son that it is hard to live without all of his favorite foods but at least he can walk, run, talk, hear and many other things that other children cannot. By doing lots of research we have been able to modify alot of recipes to fit our diet. Keep up hope and Good Luck.

Thanks titansgirl for the support. It's all good, taking it one day at a time.

FreedomK I've had a lifetime of bad habits that I must break, but it's been an eye opening experience. If I had taken better care I wouldn't be here now. It's harder for me cause now I have to change my whole way of thinking and lifestyle. Hard to give up all the stuff that I do love. With you being young, you will adapt better than I will. It's all a learning process and I'm sure you'll be great at it. With youth on yourside your better adaptable to change things in your diet and lifestyle. It's not a death sentence so don't look at it that way. Have faith in yourself and be thankful you have the support and advice out there. Good luck dear and if you find anything that will help me I would love to hear. Take care and enjoy each day.

I am very upset that you have been diagnosed with EE. One because I know how hard it is and Two I was under the impression that this was a disease that targets young kids and young adults and that you will eventually grow out of it. I was told that it is very VERY rare to see this in Middle aged adults and the elderly and that my chances were high of this going away would be about middle age or a little older. Now Im reading your story and my hopes have been shattered. I need to find a place that does trial therapy for this. Good luck to you getting control of your symptoms, hopefully there will be a cure soon since it seems like you cant always grow out of it.

I am trying elemental formula and oral viscous budesonide. From what I have read, even though this therapy is for children, it has a very high success rate. I am wondering if anyone else is trying this...

Hang in there! Find out what your food allergies are and stay away from those foods. Also, make sure the Previcid is also helping to heal your esophagus. Nexium is great in blocking acid but also healing your esophagus which is what you need. Staying away from the foods you are allergic to will also help heal the esophagus. Your doc can also test your blood for eotaxin levels. It is new but they think there is a link between ee and eotaxin levels.

Make sure you have a good GI doc who knows about ee and is up to date on the research.
