Not Personally, But To A Friend

I remember when I was about 12, i was with my friend and his family at a park.  My friend happened to be Pakistani. While at the park, an elderly women walked up to my friends parents and began hurling racial slurs at them, telling them to get out of her country. Now i grew up in a fairly well off area, a pretty happy, welcoming community, and this was the first instance of any racial differentiation i had ever come across. I still remember how downtrodden his mother looked after it, it really struck me. I went home and felt really bad for the rest of the day. Even worse was when i brought it up with my friend the day after, he said it had happened before. It still sticks with me to this day how sad my friends mother looked after the incident, and although I have never felt direct racism, this really gave me a horrible insight.
