I Can't Wear A Clothing Style Because I Am Not Asian When It's Not Really An Asian Style?

I don't know how many people here have heard of the clothing style that is popular in Japan, called Lolita.

It's based off of the Victorian style. I have been told by other Asians that I am a wannabe Japanese and only Japanese people should be allowed to wear Lolita. (I am white btw)   I just kindly remind them that the clothing is based off the Victorian era and Asians didn't invent that clothing style, they can't say anymore after that.

I don't think dressing in Lolita style is in any way trying to be Japanese. I think it is simply an ultra feminine way of dressing and expressing yourself. I adore the style and encourage anyone to try it. The Japanese may have started the phenomenon and l thank them for that, but they don't own it. You go girl. Be who you want to be.

I've never heard of this...and I'm around a TON of Asians. Wear what you want, when you want. It's a free country. And if people don't agree...screw it.

I can understand your resentment at negative comments ... but really ... we need to celebrate the Japanese culture for introducing this, and embracing what is girlie and feminine. There is no way this would have started in the west. Most western women have forsaken open ex<x>pressions of their femininity. <br />
It is an offshoot of cosplay ... Be assured you are not alone ... There are many western girls who have picked up on the sweet Lolitia fad. So what if it was introduced in Japan? The Japanese have copied various things from the west. Here is something else quite cute coming from Japan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w06zvM2x_lw

Just sucks they think that way and it makes no sense, I never understood how they think that makes someone a wapanese. The clothing style is ba<x>sed off of something mostly white people would wear back then, so if I were to think like them, they are trying to be white. lol.

you can wear whatever you want, but do expect people to make comments on it. that style is pretty popular today with japanese community.. i first notice it in the japanese made game called, "castlevania: portrait of ruins" with the characters named loretta and stella. it is popular today with their community because they think it looks cute, wearing it makes you look like a wapanese
