    That's terrible that your family was subjected to that...wow. It just blows my mind that the manager of the hotel would also have an issue with black people using the pool--he obviously did, since he supported the guests' complaints by saying something to your dad. I lived in South Carolina for the last 2 years of high school back in the late 1980's and yeah, it was pretty racist. I had moved there from the east coast and a pretty diverse neighborhood so hung around with a pretty mixed group of friends--latin, black, white, asian, so on. I remember the confederate flag being on the Capitol Building, and thought that was kind of racist in itself when we first got into town. I caught a lot of crap for hanging around with some black friends in South Carolina, which really surprised me since nobody had ever said anything to me up north about it...ugh. I just hate it when people are ignorant/racist. We should be way past this by now...
