*Rrrrraarrgh!* Ryuu Smash!

Ahhh yes, this is a problem that I have frequently.

Those of you that have met me before know that I do post my opinions on very controversial topics.  Pro-choice, Atheism, Creationism, Gay-rights - I've been there and posted my opinions on it.  But I've had to start putting a little disclaimer on any post I do where I actually state a clear opinion.  Why?  Because otherwise people seem to follow me around telling me that I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but an 'opinion' contains your own personal beliefs towards a subject.  I am always very careful never to tell people that other opinions are wrong, or that they should believe what I say.  I just state my own opinions on the subject.  For one particular post I did regarding racism, a guy even sent me a private message that began 'You should try thinking more often' and continuing to call me and idiot and telling me that I should stop posting.  Yeah.  Like I'm going to listen to that.

I have no problem with people stating opposing views.  I even enjoy arguing with people and questioning their opinions to find out why they differ.  I can't stand people who tell me that my opinions are 'wrong' though, on subjects where people do disagree anyway.

Seriously, if my point of view offends you; don't talk to me.

Rant over.

Annoymous EP user: I apologise, but I am unsure whether or not you are being sarcastic.<br />
<br />
As I state in my above post, I do not ob<x>ject to other opinions - if everyone was the same, the world would be boring. I do ob<x>ject to people being told that they are wrong for holding their own opinion.<br />
<br />
To illustrate, a good discussion is as follows:<br />
<br />
Argument: "I am pro-life for the following reasons_______"<br />
Counter: "While I understand your point of view, these are some of the reasons why I disagree____"<br />
<br />
A bad discussion would be as follows:<br />
Argument: "I am pro-life for the following reasons_______"<br />
Counter: "You're and idiot and should be ashamed of yourself."<br />
<br />
Civil discussion is a wonderful thing. Shooting someone down because they think differently to you is hideously rude.

Odd, All this time I thought that was what EP was all about, Being exposed to a diversity of opinions.<br />
<br />
What would be the point if you could only express conformity. What a dull place that would be.

I suppose. If someone was being personal in their attacks, I'd probably do that.

Well thats fair enough - I think I have had a giggle myself at various 'commentators' on your stories!<br />
And I actually havent deleted or blocked anyone either...but if you are being targeted by someone or repeatedly abused via Pm by a serial offender - then they should be removed.

I've never deleted or blocked anyone. My philosophy is, if I think that they sound stupid then at least other people will be having a good laugh at them too...

Repeat after me: Delete. Block. <br />
Debate is fine, even arguments can be intellectually stimulating - a slagging match however, benefits no one. Delete. Block.
