Islam is a peaceful religion, if its tenets are followed. As in Christianity, the fault lies with those who claim to follow its teachings, without understanding them.

What we see are the Muslims who are extremists. We see people who have strong faith, and are misled by people with their own agendas - a phenomenon not unique to Islam.

Referring to ur posted story...I felt terrible for everything that happened towards the Muslims all over the world. Palestinians has suffered for more than a hundred years of war. It ain't gettin' better. More wars exploded...all in Muslim countries. Why is this happening? My teachers said, todays war happened mostly on Muslims countries because they believe in Islam but they do not obey the rules set in the Islamic laws. That's why we saw Muslims who kill people, Muslims who drinks, who indulge in gambling....the list goes on and on. Eventhough Islam prohibits any of the wrongdoings by instilling the fear of burning hell and rewards to those who believe and obey.....still, many Muslims today show bad examples of disobeying Islamic rules. There's nothing wrong with Islam. Islam is not bad.....it is us...the Muslims who fails to believe and obey. I'm a Muslim.....

I'm not sure that is a fair comparison. I know atheists who are awesome wonderful people, and I know some who are quite the opposite, who take pleasure from hurting others.

I think if atheists had control of a government and military power they would be guilty of the same sorts of atrocities all governments are capable of. It isn't about religion, it is about power, about being in control. I don't see lack of belief in God as a deterrent to killing people in the name of obtaining power.
