have gone back and forth with this idea of spirituality and what it means since I was ten years old. My family is very religious and to a varying degree, spiritual. I have always found a disconnect, personally, between my religion and spirituality. Not to say that you can't be religious and spiritual at the same time, it just never worked out that way for me. Actually it's left me utterly confused. The only thing that I am certain of is that there is a higher being, there is a God. And I guess only I can answer the questions that burn within me, I am told that this is the beginning step on the path towards spirituality. It's just, I don't know where to go from there.

 Feeling sad  | Posted Sep 28th, 2008 at 10:32AM I was raised religious, and left it as I became spiritual. I think the main reason why it doesn't work out for me is that religion feels too structured and therefore limiting; whereas spirituality is more of a free, personal thing, and I don't have to live up to someone elses- either another person's or an institution's- standards and ideas of what makes one a "good" person, etc.- I make those decisions myself.   |

 | Posted Jan 13th, 2009 at 10:54AM Being spiritual is sitting on the fence. Like you can't pick a religious practice to follow so instead take bits you like from different religions and design your own practice to follow. |
