I Fell In Love With Someone I Met Online
My husband was a member of Nerve.com and I was a member of Fark.com and, apparently, they use the same personals engine. I saw his profile and I liked what he had to say. Also, I thought he was cute in his picture. :)
So I sent him a message. Agonizing until the moment when my computer told me i had a new message.... he finally responded. We began a quite amusing email conversation until the day when we exchanged phone numbers. Then we had interesting and engaging telephone conversations... until the day we decided to meet in person. My husband usually likes to tell the story from this point forward because it really is hilarious.
We tried to think of a place we both knew how to get to easily because we lived in different cities an hour apart. So we agreed to meet on a college campus in the city I lived in. It was about 9:30 or 10:00pm by the time we were both available... so we met in a dark, weirdly lit parking lot on a deserted college campus. It was going into Labor Day weekend, so no students were to be found. And here we were.
At that point in time, I was a silly, clueless post-grad driving a huge SUV with tinted windows and a kickin' stereo. I invited him into my car... I figured I would drive since I was familiar with the city. He admitted later that he was expecting some very large men to be hiding in the back seat.
So we drove... and I casually mentioned that I have to make a stop. I pull into a gas station with the intention of buying cigarettes. He told me later that he figured that the police would be finding his body in the dumpster behind this gas station the next morning. He was greatly relieved when I hopped back into the car with cigarettes and a friendly smile.
So we hung out at some bar, played pool, had a few drinks, and ended the night with a mini make-out session. We already felt like we knew each other from our email and phone conversations, so it was very comfortable. Everything just felt so mutual and properly aligned.
That was 4 years ago. We got married and are still very much in love.
