Bad Bicycle Accident

This happened in early December of '75. My parents were out on an errand. I was on vacation because I was part of a year-round school program. It was a nice day, so I decided to go on a bike ride.

I wasn't paying enough attention, and lost control of my bike on gravel. I was thrown off violently and rolled on the gravel covered street. I didn't break any bones, but I got banged up quite a bit. Fortunately, several passing motorists saw me and I was taken to a nearby hospital.

After a couple of hours, my parents showed up. I had to be taken to another hospital because they had belonged to an HMO.

My name was called after an hour or so. My mother and went to the exam room. While I was there, they took my blood pressure, which was a new experience for me.

The doctor examined me and decided I needed a tetanus shot. A middle aged nurse came into the room. She told me my fanny would be sore from the shot. I pulled down my pants and underwear and let the nurse do her job. I was so sore from my injuries I barely felt it.

This happened when I was ten. I haven't had a shot in the bottom since.

I also had my bike skid out from under me rounding a corner on my way to class. I got a bunch of gravel in the palm of my hand and spent some time at the infirmary while they dug it all out. Missed the class that day. Don't recall if I got a shot in the butt that time or not. Must have gotten novocaine in my hand though.
Another time I got 2 penicillin shots a day for 5 days running in my butt.

That must have hurt!
