Yes I Did...yes I DoSome will see the title to this story as proof that we don't need to spank children. Well, I'm a better man for it and my kids know right from wrong.
I was spanked by principals in school and it turned to respect, not fear. I still talk to him to this day and have thanked him for the disapline.
I was spanked at home until 12. Then a drunken stepfather taught me to "fight like a man"
My childhood discipline taught me the basis for my own level of dishing out the punishment. I will not beat a child. I will spank them when needed. I will not touch a child in anger. If I'm angry we will deal with it after I have settled down. After a child is about 10, if that, it's too late for spankings. Something else is required. I usually try to get creative and teach them that hard work (like feeding the animals alone or cleaning out a shed in the yard full of mom's junk) won't kill them. Exercise is a good.one that I use now. I hate to admit it (really lol) but the Drill Sgts had a good plan.:-)
"Spare the rod spoil the child " is correct, but doing it half cocked or in a mean manner because you're the "disciplinarian" is stupid and will esult in a bad mannered and usually violent child.
That's my personal belief. It works well for me.
