Haunted Experience In Upstate New York

I spent my adolescence in a colonial style farmhouse in Chazy, NY.  It's a small little town about 20 minutes south of the Canadian border.  I was 12 years old when I had my first paranormal experience.  At night we could see a pair of red eyes peering into our windows anytime after dark.  The smoke detectors would chirp for no reason at any hour of the day, mostly when we were in the room.  There were two staircases in the house, a front and back staircase.  I would hear footsteps up the front staircase and down the back staircase (I still get chills about it even writing this).  One night even the family doberman took heed that something was going on.  There was commotion in my closet often, the sound of clothing being taken off hangers.  The scariest experience was one afternoon in my room.  I was on the telephone talking with a friend from school when all of a sudden, my doorknob started turning like crazy (as if someone was desperate to get in).  I thought my mom might have been messing with me (as she was the only one home).  I yelled for her to cut it out.  I got no response, I called out again.  I heard her from holler to me from downstairs (while the knob was still turning) and asked me why I was yelling.  I stood up, quickly opened the door (which felt very COLD) and there was no one there.  WE lovingly named our ghost Henry and cohabited with him for years.  He never meant any harm and it almost became comical when we would hear him as we would call him out by name.  I  had heard rumors of someone hanging themselves in our garage but never was able to verify any of that.  I do believe that what happened was a haunting but no harm was ever instilled, just a little fear which soon turned to serious interest.  I still search for answers today.
