    Awww, thanks. :-)

The woods and creeks where you grew up must have been gorgeous. I love how lush that area is.

Yep. I remember when the recession hit in 2008. I was out driving and saw a beat up old Jeep with this written on the back:

    "Broke, Hungry, and Happy."

I thought that was awesome. :-)

I am happy for you that you and your family's life have turned around for the better.

As far as your "poor" background --- never forget how much you were happy, then. I would far rather be poor and "happy: --- than to enjoy (that's IF I would enjoy) being affluent.) a life which gave me "riches".

"Poor and Happy"? "Rich but 'not sure'"? I'll take "poor and happy" every day.

    Regards: Jim

It's the best smell in the world, huh AP? :-)

Hahaha!!! I've seen those educational toys, and I wish my niece and nephews were old enough to play with them...because I want an excuse to play with them, too, haha.

I remember one time I was determined to collect a whole colony and keep it in a gallon jar. I dug in an anthill to about 4 feet, but couldn't find the queen...

I have a magnifying glass in the shape of a bug and matching binoculars. And two butterfly nets. And a mini tent with a flash light that has interchangable lens caps that do different shadows...I got them for the kids but...uh...I've been using them more than them. :)

i can definitely relate with your story. we are alike in some ways: growing up in a poor family; being blessed with responsible parents, finding happiness in little things and loving the smell of a new box of crayons. ;-)

Sweet! I'll bring my mud-digging trowel and jars for collecting bugs.

I love it! You will hold me to it that if we cross paths, we are going on an all day excursion! And someone will be around to make us sandwiches with cookies and milk, lol! Other girls can have their spa says, I want to go out and explore with a friend! : )

If you learned that, you own an unvaluable treasure.

The woman has always had a gift for making a comfortable home, no matter where it is. I hope I've learned at least that much from her.

You picture your mother here in just a few lines but with so much affection and gratitude. That's wonderful. And yes, like Lazyangel and the Beatles say: money can't buy love...

So true. Money can make life easier, but not necessarily happier.

    Thank you. :-)

I really have been blessed with good parents. My mother sacrificed so much for us. Things weren't always picture-perfect, but there were more good times than bad times.

I love your story and the love you have for your hard working, proud and excellent parents who managed to give you a happy childhood in spite of hardness and need. That is very moving.

All I need is a circle of pillows and an acoustic guitar, and I'm ready for story time, haha.

If I ever figure out how to go back to those days, Tek, you'll be the first to know. Imagine all the different kinds of trouble we could get into, haha.

My hands were propping my head up, I felt like I was listening to story time. Can we go back to those days? I used to have such adventures out in the yard exploring, digging, hunting around, playing.

Yeah. It's hard to appreciate the simple things like we did when we were kids. I think it's possible, but we really have to work at it. We take a lot for granted in adulthood.

Like you, I grew up "poor". As strange as it may sound, those were the happiest days of my life.

In the autumn years of my life, I'm no longer "poor" -- thanks to wise investments.

Does "that" make me "happy", now? No. I actually long for the years that we were poor. Because we were family and shared. Those were the "comfort" years of my life. Today? I can buy anything that I want. THAT'S going to make me "happy"? I don't think so. The old saying is: "Money doesn't buy happiness". And it's true. I'm here to tell you that. I wish I could turn the hands of time back ---- when I was happy --- and poor.

    Regards, Jim

Yeah, we didn't feel like we were missing out on anything. All the toys we needed were outside. That was healthier, anyway. :-)
