Gum Grafts - It's Not As Bad As People Say!!!! This Is A Good Story!!

I had 10 Alloderm gum grafts on my bottom teeth on 7/9/10. I was put to sleep with an IV of Valium so I only remember a little of the process. I haven't had any pain just a little swelling around my jaws. I can swallow just fine so taking my antibiotic and extra strength Advil has been easy. I am drinking Ensure and eating soft things like yogurt. If you are planning to have gum graft surgery DO NOT watch any videos of the procedure because that will just scare you to death.I also read a lot of scary things too. I put off having the grafts for over a year because I was so afraid of the pain that I had heard about. I cried a lot - just worrying about whether or not to do it almost to the point of having panic attacks. I'm so glad I found a periodontist that uses Alloderm (donor tissue). It sounded gross to me at first, but when it meant not having the roof of my mouth cut up I decided it was what I wanted to do. My stitches are clear and I can feel the ones across the back of my bottom teeth. My gums look better than I thought they would too. I thought the Alloderm grafts would be white for a while but they are already nice and pink. I have to dab on a special oral rinse called Peridex in the morning and before bed using a Q-tip. I'm so glad now that I had this done.FIND A GOOD PERIODONTIST!! My periodontist is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology (I felt even better about that!!) I also want to tell you that I believe in prayer. I had a lot of people praying for me and I know God has helped me get through all of this. You can do the gum grafts!!! It will be ok. I wanted people to hear a positive view of gum graft surgery!! God bless who ever reads this. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillippians 4:13
