Hard 2 Weeks

On Jun 28 at 8:30 am, I arrived at the dentist office for the grafting of my lower left side.  I had met this dentist in December and had delayed my surgery until May because I am an accountant and needed to get through tax season.  When May came, I postponed because of my work schedule.

How I wish I had canceled.

The dentist had forgotten our conversation of five months prior, and since I had no idea what I was doing, I said okay to whatever.

He did put me under, which I appreciated very much, but when I finally looked at what he had done, I was amazed.  He had done the whole bottom of my mouth.  And he had cut two places out of my palate.  The brochure he gave me as we walked out of the office stated soft foods and ice packs for three days.

Three days do not do this surgery justice.  I am now at day 10 and still on pain pills.  A usual work week for me is 70 hours - last week I was able to work 20.

On day 7 I started vomiting and could not stop.  He called me in another presciption to stop the vomiting.  It did not stop the pain.

I go back tomorrow to see what he will do now.  I know I have at least 13 stitches in the bottom of my mouth, and I hope he is not going to take them out.  I cannot stand another day on the couch.

And since finding this website, I now know this procedure may not work.....

I wish I had found this website before I had the procedure done.  I would have at least known what I was up against before I went to the dentist that morning.

I will keep you updated, and will continue to read your progress.

I just had my whole bottom graph. This is day 6, I am in so much pain. The graph is so ulgy and hurts so bad.

How is it now?

OMG, this sounds horrid. I'm sorry it has been so awful for you. After my first surgery, I too felt the "one day and then back to normal" was a vast understatement. I was weak and exhausted for almost a week. But this sounds much worse. Are things better now?

what type of graft did you get? You got the whole bottom mouth done? Most dentist I talked to would only do 4 teeth at a time. I'm in the Bay are California.
