Scared Of Surgery

Hi everyone,  Long story, short.  3 years ago I went through 2 total knee replacements about 6 months apart. During recovery I noticed I was having trouble sitting for long periiods of time. I went to acupuncturist because I thought she could help my tailbone pain.  After she removed needle near my tailbone some "icy hot" leaked into the hole.  After that I have had to deal with this recurring pilonidal cyst.

My tailbone has, I believed been damaged by this cyst.  I ended up going to a chiropractic spine care center for nearly 10 months at the cost of $6,500, only to find I had slight case of sciolosis and some degenerating discs.  Not too bad, after all that I still had the cyst keep appearing and tailbone pain. I keep it cleaned out and try to take care of it as much as possible but this last time I had fever & chills, and a redline going straight up my crack, that scared me enough to make appointment with colo/rectal surgeon.  She was very informative and told me it could reoccur. I have surgery date set for Oct 19th, 2011.

I am very nervous and scared having read all these stories on this site.  It could either be the end of a nightmare or the beginning of one.  I'm so confused. I feel like cancelling the surgery and just dealing with it. Someone please let me know if I am doing the right thing.

The surgeon will be going in sideways to help healing process.  Has anyone had this surgery and been glad they did?  I'm tired of being in pain and I don't want to be a burden to my husband who has taken such good care of me through these 2 knee replacements.  Thanks for listening.

I also have a Pilo that has stuck around for about 5 years, however I havent had the surgery yet, so I cant give you any feedback. I would definately say to go thru w/ the surgery though. I would if I could get the time off of work. Good luck, and I hope it all works out for you.
