Pain relief through medication was not an option for me. Instead of getting an anaesthetic or epidural I tried to assist my body by mind-focus, breathing and changing positions. I was mentally and emotionally ready. The pain of pushing my boys out was truly excruciating. There is no other pain like that. I have great respect for any woman that goes through birthgiving in this way. Thankfully, it didn't last longer than a few hours. And from the moment I had each tiny baby lying in my arms, the physical distress and mental strain of delivering were over! Hallelujah!
And I can also remember that the first time round, my husband almost fainted as he watched his son's head push through, while the second time, he simply started munching on a cookie!!!
