I Didn't Have a Kidney Stone, I Had a Kidney Mass!

I couldn't get to sleep one night. My back was hurting terribly. I knew what the problem was. I had a kidney stone. I had had a small one when pregnant with my first child. It took a short trip to the hospital and some antibiotics to fix the problem. So, I woke my husband and told him I was driving myself to the hospital. He offered to take me, but I said no because he had to work the next morning and our 2 year old was sleeping. I told him I would be back before he had to go to work. By the time I arrived at the hospital, I was in so much pain, I was physically ill. I told the nurse that I had a stone and she said that they would determine what was wrong with me. So, I lay there for a couple of hours while they decided what was wrong with me. Finally, they came and told me that my white blood count was extremely high, which meant that I most likely had a kidney stone or infection. Again, I informed them that I had a stone. They said that they would need x-rays to make that determination. I had the x-rays and they came and told me that something was odd, so they needed new ones. By this time, I had been given some very good pain meds and I was feeling great. I said no problem. Problem! The movement it took to get the new x-rays aggravated the pain and I had 3 hours to wait until time for more meds. Finally, I was told that I had a mass of calcium completely blocking my kidney and that it wasn't even functioning. I was given tons of meds and stayed in the hospital. In the end, I had to go under and have a stint put in from my kidney to my bladder. This mass was there for the rest of my pregnancy and it felt like I had been beaten. On top of that, the stint poked my bladder, which irritated me to no end. I was miserable and in pain for the next 3 and 1/2 months!
