2 Level Spinal Fusion L4/l5-s1/s2

I HAD SPINAL FUSION SURGERY IN FEB OF 2012,AFTER TWO AND HALF YEARS OF STEROID SHOTS IT WAS TIME. 6 SCREWS, 2 RODS , AND A YEAR LATER I HAVE TO SAY IM HAPPY THAT I HAD IT. I WALK , I RUN , I DO HOT YOGA ONCE A WEEK, I EVEN WENT TO THE DRIVING RANGE AND HIT GOLF BALLS THE OTHER DAY AND WAS PAIN FREE. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING AFTER I HAD THIS SURGERY I WAS SO DEPRESSED AND DOWN ON MY SELF BEING THAT I WAS SO YOUNG AND HAD ALL THESE PROBLEMS. I HAVE TWO KIDS(3 AND 1) AND BEING THAT I WORK NIGHTS I AM WITH THEM THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME AND I RUN AND PLAY WITH THEM NO PROBLEM. IF I HAD TO DO IT AGAIN I WOULD NO QUESTIONS ASKED I JUST HOPE THAT I CAN CONTIUE TO HAVE SUCESS.
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS HAD ANY INJECTIONS AFTER THE FACT JUST IN CASE AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. THANX AN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INPUT

I am 63 and have been in pain for 1 year. 3 docs told me I need Fusion at L5-S1. Can you tell me the name of your doctor who was able to do a minimally invasive procedure. Was the done through your back or stomach or both?

Thanks for the positive news. I had an extreme lateral fusion of my lumbarr spine where 3 new synthetic disks were put in and cages at 3 levels. It's been almost 2 years and all my pain is back. A ct scan showed a nonefusion so nothing to hold up the cages. I've scheduled another surgery for the end of the month with another surgeon who specializes in repairing failed fusions, has a plan to use my hip bone and other things to promote bone growth, and will go through the back, not the side, and will secure the cages with screws. I am 64 years old and in pretty good shape, but not great shape. Weight is not an issue. How do I get myself to be positive about this?

I am 10 days post op( L5-S2 foramenotomy, lamenectoy), and fusion with screws. Just returned from shopping, and walking for over an hour. I am older, 62, put have been in pain for over 2 years. Went through the shots, RFA, physical therapy etc. but nothing helped.

Found a Neurosurgeon in my are, Detroit, who does minimally invasive micro surgery. It is the only way to go! Search around until you find a Dr you can trust and uses the most innovative techniques available.

I waited 7 months to find the right doctor, and now after 10 days feel better than before surgery. Little pain around incision, and no pain down my legs!

I'd rather have cars than bungled surgery. I have four four to six inch scars, but the surgeries all worked fine.

i also was very happy to read your story. I am a 26 year old wife and mother of 2 young children and I have also tried the whole facet joint blocks and spinal nerve burnings with no success. Super strong prescription pain killers and facing severe depression and about to have to quit my job teaching, I've decided that I have to do it. I am just so scared of the "horror stories". What area of the country are you in? What surgeon did you use? I have found that to be a dauting task in it of itself...finding the right surgeon who hasn't paralized anyone to the point lately (or whom has written or had someone write a review for them online). Just so scared but know that I am not a "depressed" type of person and want to be free of this pain that no one in my family could possibly understand!

There are many reputable surgeons who can do this.

I am so freaking ecstatic to hear of your success with your surgery, I am scheduled for the same on mon 4/1 went down the injection path with the steroids ECT for last 6 year. After your surgery how long before you could do stairs ? Thanks whiskeypapa

Took me about a week to climb the stairs readily. You can climb them in 3 or 4 days with pain. Normally alternating steps around a month
