Nearly 8 Years Out

In one month I will be 8 years out from having weight loss surgery. In March of 2001 I weighed 260 pounds and after having open RNY gastric bypass surgery I lost 130 pounds and have kept it off. I have a blog and I'm currently doing a show on the Weight Loss Surgery Channel (on the internet) and also a segment during the WLS News. I never thought I would be able to get a second chance at life so I am very grateful.

You can see the WLS Channel at www.WLSChannel.com

I enjoy your enthusiasm @ weight loss..i am 3 yrs out of lap-banding and could not be happier. Nothing is perfect, but at least i feel successful weight wise for the first time in 10+ years, and life just gets better when you truly like yourself

MeUnabridged, I will send you a message directly too. You've gone through 3 things that tend to put the weight back on. You're a long way out and had 2 pregnancies. That's really tough but it's not impossible. I don't know if you have insurance that could test your pouch size (an EGD) but that is sometimes a factor too. Sometimes the stoma stretches but I think in your case you might be failing due to one of those self fulfilling prophecies where you are so sure that you will fail that you do. My best advice is to up your exercise and eat really healthy and make sure you are taking vitamins. It won't happen overnight but if you think of it as "WOW I've still lost 90 pounds!!" it works so much better. We tend to really concentrate on "I can't believe I've gained 40 pounds." I know this sounds too simple to believe but it's really important to see the glass half full instead of half empty. Are you involved in any support groups? My heart goes out to you and when you have a mountain to move you just have to pick up that shovel and do one scoop at a time. I have a blog at www.bariatricgirl.blogspot.com that may be of help.

Congratulations on your continued success, I had surgery nearly 8 or 9 years ago, I keep forgetting which. I lost 130 lbs, BUT over the past 5 years, and 2 pregnancies I have regained about 40 lbs. I am at a loss as to how to get the regain back off, as EVERYTHING I try doesn't work. I will lose an intitial 7 or 8 lbs, and then it just come right back on no matter how well I follow a plan or exercise. Any ideas? You look wonderful! I am at 240, and just want to get back to the 200 I had hit.

I am so sorry for your difficulties. I am very fortunate and grateful. Bless your heart....

I had it a few years back but vomited sooooo much. After two years and 100lbs weight loss, my GP had surgeon take out the small valve which, although no a reversal, ceases to be effective.
I was placed on steriods for 18 mths for a lung condition and gained all the weight back.....sad but I am healthier now.
