In the Grand National yesterday, Phil Nicholls, the trainer of the winning horse, Neptune Collonges in the National, said that anybody who objects to the deaths of Synchronised and According To Pete in the race, should 'grow up'. These horses will never have the chance to grow old.

Over the last 5 years, 812 horses have died in the UK through jump racing. Now these two lovely animals have been added to the tragic list.

It's you, Mr Nicholls, that needs to grow up.

(Incidentally, I have just been abused on another social network site for standing up for what I believe in)

I would be an absolute hypocrite if I hate every aspect of horse racing, as I actually won £50 on Neptune Collonges; I occasionally do the odd bet. But I will say that there are certain aspects of horse racing that I do dislike.

I watched that Grand National race and I thought it was horribly unerving when some of the horses fell, and I was very sad to hear about Synchronised and According To Pete, but this is one of the significant downfalls to horse racing. Things have got slightly better, but there are still things that need to be changed regarding the horses' welfare.

Yes, absolutely right. Those involved in this farrago care not a jot for these beautiful animals.

I agree with you, I think horse racing should be banned, these beautiful horses are KILLED for no other reason than to satisfy people's lust for making money, either the owners out to win, or ordinary people gambling money.
