Capitalism: I hate it though I live and breathe it. It sanctions the commonplace breaking of the 2nd Formulation of the Categorical Imperative, that people shouldn’t be treated as a means to an end. Capitalism makes greed into common sense. We like it because it gives us what we want. We excuse excess as a necessary evil, offering it as an idol that motivates us. We champion it, we call it Progress; we give it the gloss of a moral tone and a mathematical formulation and trust the Markets to do their thing.
