Condescension Much?

Dear Doctors,

I realize you have spent thousands of dollars putting yourself through medical school, have endured long hours, hard work, human dissection, and long boring lectures to achieve your status today, and I respect your discipline and commitment to completing that goal. Congrats!

However, I would appreciate a few things when I pay your clinic patronage. Nothing too extreme, so it shouldn't put you to any trouble:

- Please look me in the eye and treat me as though I am a human being and not a number on your clipboard. Thnx.

- Please remember that I am alive and can feel things. Try to be gentle.

- Just wanted to remind you that I have lived inside my body for the duration of my entire life, and when I say something isn't right, I mean something isn't right.

- Just because you can't see/hear/feel it, doesn't mean it isn't there.

- Your exam room is freezing. Remember, we are not in suits and labcoats, but in paper gowns. And we are waiting for you to return, so some pep in your step would be appreciated.

- I don't particularly enjoy these visits any more than you do, so let's try to be cordial and get through this together.

There. See? That shouldn't be too hard, should it? I really appreciate your forthcoming efforts, and I'll be seeing you- hopefully not too soon!

Your friend, Alana
