I Hate My Mother In Law
My relationship with my MIL has always been rocky (from the first day I met her 3 years ago). Lets start there... I lived in a different state then my boyfriend so I had drove 21 hours to spend a week with him and his mom. First of all, let me get this out there so everyone understands the situation...my boyfriend is blind. He's been blind all his life so he has always lived in the same house as his mother, even though the house they live in is my boyfriend's. He pays all the bills and always has since they first moved in 12 years ago. Anyways, so I drive 21 hours to spend time with my boyfriend and to meet his mom abd the 2nd day I'm there I hear my MIL tell my boyfriend, 'You need to tell your girlfriend to clean the bathroom'. First of all, it was only my 2nd day at the house so I knew that bathroom was messy way before I got there and I couldn't believe that I would be expected to clean up after people that I had just met. Secondly, I was raised that guests are not expected to clean while visiting. Well, I cleaned the bathroom anyways because I difn't want to start things off badly with my boyfriends mom.
About 3 months later, I moved in with my boyfriend and MIL with the intention of getting a job and saving up enough money to get my own place close to my boyfriend's. That's when the problems REALLT started! When I made dinner, my MIL would complain that all the pots and pans that I had used were just sitting on the stove...and this was WHILE we were eating. We hadn't even finished eating dinner before she was complaining about the mess. Another thing that she does ALL THE TIME that I can't stand... my boyfriend and MIL are spanish, I am caucasion. I have no idea how to speak spanish. So my MIL will talk about me in spanish and I'm stansing RIGHT there! I mean my boyfriend tells me what she says, but how can someone have the nerve to talk about you right in front of your face knowing that you can't understand what they're saying? She's just very very childish... I mean come on!
Anyway, not long after I moved in with my boyfriend we had gotten into a car accident. Thank God neither one of us were hurt but it totalled my car. So my MIL had offered to let me use her car because I had a job and had no other way to get to work. At the time, I thought she was being very generous but I should have expected that she had something else up her sleeve. For about a month, everything was fine but then she started taking her car an hour before I had to be at work and wouldn't come back until I was several hours late for work. My boss understood the first few times and let me make the time up, but I ended up having to quit.
It was actually a good thing because right around that time, my boyfriend and I had found out that we were having a baby. My boyfriend and I had talked a lot about it and we decided to move back to my home state for the pregnancy and the birth. There were several reasons we had decided on this but the 2 main reasons were that I wanted to be with my mom during this time and I wanted to be away from his mom because all she did was stress me out! So when my boyfriend told his mom we were moving away for a year, she tells him that she feels the only reason I wanted to leave was because I was hiding something and I didn't want her to find out! Aaahhhh! So we moved back to my home and 7 months later, had a beautiful baby girl. We stayed there until our daughter was 7 months old and my MIL NEVER came to see her. My MIL had just started working 2 months before my daughter was born (which I think was to have an excuse not to have to visit) but she had plenty of time to make the trip. She works at a scho and my daughter was born exactly 1 week before Christmas which means my MIL had 3 weeks off for Christmas break, but never bothered to come see her granddaughter. She also had 2 weeks off for Spring Break but never came to visit. She told my boyfriend that she didn't know about the 2 weeks off until the day before the cacation started, but then we found out that she had known weeks in advance because she had planned to take her nieces and nephew for those 2 weeks! My boyfriend asked her why she wouldn't come visit and her excuse was always that she didn't have the money...so he offered to pay for the trip...but of course she came up with some other excuse!
Now we are living in the same house yet again and I'm going insane! We're leaving tomorrow to look at houses in ANOTHER state... I just pray it all works out and we can move out of here as soon as possible! I don't know how much longer I can take this insanity! (Sorry this is so long bur once I got started, I couldn't stop!)
