was driving downtown tonight. I had my GPS taking me to Graham Central Station, which is on 2nd Avenue. My GPS was telling me to go past 2nd Avenue, turn on 3rd, and basically make a big loop to get on from the other direction. I was wondering why the heck it was telling me that, but I thought it was just being stupid, so I just turned straight onto 2nd. Little did I know that it was a one way street! I realized it when I turned onto it and saw there was no yellow line, and everyone was coming from the other direction. Then I looked behind me and saw a cop! He pulled me over and wrote me a ticket...
This isn't the first time this has happened. I've gone the wrong way on one way streets multiple times. Downtown is full of them. But here's the thing. They don't have BIG SIGNS like the one on the icon for this experience. Sometimes I'll see a little sign hanging from the wire that the traffic lights are on that just has an arrow and the word "only" to show which way it goes. But I don't really pay that much attention to those. I suppose that's my fault...I should look for more than traffic lights on those wires. But still, it would be a lot better if they put a huge sign like a stop sign that says "ONE WAY" on it. One that you can't miss.
Anyway, I have to pay my ticket now...either that or go to traffic school...*sigh*
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to spot a one way street before I turn and it's too late? It would be much appreciated.

Feeling excited | Posted Sep 7th, 2009 at 9:10AM I think it's $50. I didn't see the fine for going the wrong way on a one way street on the website, but it said a "moving violation" is $50. I was definitely moving. |

 | Posted Nov 17th, 2009 at 8:22AM You accumulate "points" on your driving record for certain violations. In Tennessee, points mostly affect commercial drivers. However, for all driver in TN the more points you have against you the higher your insurance rates will be. I think you lose the privilege to drive in TN if you have 12 points within 12 months. Check the DMV site for more details! |
