Kill The Racism In School

Ok. I didnt learn about racism till I was in 1st grade. I never realized how much people thought about skin color. I was the type of person who always made friends regardless of looks. I learned hard in elementary how depressing and awful racism is. I attended elementry in the 90's and my school was majority african american. My school was so segregated, martin luther K would turn over in his grave. We had " blacks" here, whites over there and.. Thats it... We had no mixture of people. When I came to my new school I was so lost. I didnt know where I belong. I tried going over to the "black" side and I remembered getting pushed and being told I wasnt black, I was white. I didn't know that. I didnt know what I was. My dad was white and Puerto Rican and my mom was indian and black. So I tried to hang out with the other side of people. And it worked for a little bit till some girl called me out.. Told me I was black.. I had a hard time figuring out where I belong. I became friends with the boys/ guys they weren't so bad. I would hang with them and do boy stuff (wrestle and get in trouble) till some new girls would pop up at our school. And I was soo happy and soo sad when they left.. I use to get teased and harassed for being what they called "lightskinned". I would purposely try to get the darkest tan in the summer just to "measure up" I think back and I get so mad about it. I moved at the end of 5th grade to a new district. Which was the best decision of my life. I went to a very diverse school.. Every type was there. I thought it was the most amazing thing. unfortunely I had a bit of some bad tendencies. Racism. but I got over that really quick.. I really believe after my experience (even if I didnt have one) that we should make schools more diversed. And make our communities more diversed....
