I know this because I come from a family with several redheads (thank God I missed the red hair gene). One of them put me down constantly. Among other things she'd tell me my suntan was unattractive and she was so glad she didn't "turn brown from the sun".

Posted Apr 7th, 2009 at 12:07PM She said she had never MET a nice redhead, she didn't label you all. alexis3745 didn't say all redheads were a certain way. She may in fact be bitter, sounds like some of her first instances with redheads stems from sibling rivalry. Personally, I've known several redheads. And though I'm certainly not going to say they're all callous, sarcastic bastards. I would say that the medical evidence towards their low pain tolerance certainly does make them more irritable than most. Irritable people, as a rule, are generally not nice to hang out with. I just feel bad for you guys that it has to be a genetic trait. http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1692342 I posted a link to a small medical study, there have been many like it. This one is from a government site. It evidences that redheads have a low pain tolerance...which would make you irritable people. QED.
Posted Apr 7th, 2009 at 4:52PM No sibling rivalry (but thanks for trying to understand, ericamonster) - these comments were from my MOTHER & an AUNT who were very pale redheads (but that's redundant, isn't it?), who were scared to death of the SUN! I contend that they were jealous of me, who could go out and freely frolic in the sunshine, while they stayed inside, or had to cover their poor, pale, white little bodies & wear big hats to protect themselves. My siblings were both dark eyed and had medium brown to dark brown hair. My MOTHER & AUNT had problems with me (according to my husband) because I have an unusual coloring that many find very attractive - dark hair with light blue eyes - and my MOTHER was always told what a beautiful girl I was and asked, "How did she get such beautiful coloring?". MOTHER took this as an insult to her, i.e., how did someone like you, with NO coloring, produce a child who looks like this? The way the 2 redheads (NOT Asians) responded to my story, only confirms what I said. Many (possibly most) redheads are not really very nice people. Thanks to you two, for the confirmation. Any other angry, tempermental redheads want to reply?
Posted Apr 18th, 2009 at 9:43PM Hi Alexis, I have light reddish gold hair and emerald green eyes. And I have a best friend with the same coloring, except she has ice blue eyes. We both pride ourselves in not being your average redheaded stereotypes. We are both really caring and compassionate, and I just wanted to let you know that there are a few of us out there that aren't too bad, lol.
Posted May 30th, 2009 at 10:52PM Hmmm...I found it interesting that they say redheads have low pain tolerance. My mother is a redhead and I saw her cut her finger off entirely...say "Oh, Damn" then she came home after having it sewn back on and completed the yard work that had been interupted...her pain tolerance is unbelievable!!!
Posted Oct 29th, 2009 at 3:40PM I know a few red heads, and the ones I know are exactly as you describe them, my best friends girlfriend spread rumours about me so people, including my boyfriend wouldn't like me, she also told me to stop whining when I told her my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I thought she was going to die. Now, I don't think it's possible for more than one red head to really be that much of a *****, but the other's I've met haven't been pleasant.
Posted Nov 3rd, 2009 at 11:43AM Well, I'm a redhead, and I'm not going to lie - I can get pretty damn pissed sometimes. However, I think it is somewhat unfair to say that it happens because my temper is possessed by the evil-demon-spirit that is my hair color. It's also true that redheads tend to avoid the sun. This is probably because we tend to burn like bacon and are susceptible to life-threatening skin diseases. This may strike you as pathetic, just as I find chain smokers pathetic, but one must keep in mind that one cannot control the characteristics of their complexion. Speaking solely for myself, I am not jealous nor bitter towards people who tan, or towards brunettes with unusually pretty coloring, or towards any other person who isn't a redhead. Because that would mean I hate 99% of the world. And that's a little dumb. I also know that natural redheads tend to be rather prideful about their coloring. This is due to the fact that we make up 1-2% of the population of humanity, which, yes, makes us feel special. Others view this minority as being a bunch of fire-crotched genetic freaks... either way, you may want to keep in mind that it's not our fault what coloring we're born with. I would encourage you to seek out a kind redhead someday. They exist. Just like the bitchy ones do.
Posted Nov 4th, 2009 at 11:43PM, last updated Nov 4th, 2009 at 11:44PM To judge anyone's character on their hair color is the MOST preposterous thing I've EVER heard!! What an ignorant study as well as post. haha It's just funny now... I say if you label all redheads.. pigeonhole them and put them in a box like you have... than you deserve the treatment they supposedly have given to you! OH let's have a pity party for you.. A redhead was mean to me :( waaa
