I'm really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was first diagnosed with complex partial seizures in my mid twenties when I was in grad school. I suspect I was having seizures before that in my early twenties because now that I'm 37 and I look back at that time period my memory isn't that great. There were spring breaks and trips that I went on, classes that I took, books that I read, shows/movies that I watched that I have very little memory of. Ask your close friends or family to give you a little test to see how your memory is. I would sometimes wake up with blood on my pillow or a swollen cheek or sore muscles and not know why. I went to the doctor and they didn't know what was happening either. I was having 99% of my seizures in my sleep and had no idea they were even occurring. I finally had a seizure in front of my roommate in grad school and thought, ooooooh no wonder! Anyhow, the fact that the doctor gave you meds is a standard procedure. Doctors in the U.S. are required to prescribe an antiseizure medication to help reduce your seizures or minimize the effect of them when they do occur. I tried many pills and still haven't found one that is perfect for me but don't give up. If one or two don't work just try some others or a combination or at different doses. I think the biggest drawback for me isn't the seizures themselves but the depression and anxiety that the seizures cause. Be sure to address any depression you feel with a psychiatrist or neurologist. It is NOT worth going through your twenties feeling depressed and there are medications/psychologists that can help with that. I took zoloft for many years to counterbalance the side effect of the seizures and the antiseizure meds(which make you tired and depressed). I wish I could give you and anyone going through this a big hug because I know how badly this issue can hurt and interfere with ones life but just keep in mind that I was able to somewhat get my seizures under control and despite not feeling the best and having pretty bad memory loss I still got through college and a good grad school and finally landed a great job. Though my journey was more difficult than it was for my peers, I survived and accomplished the same things they did. Take good care of yourself and do things that make you happy. I strongly advise you to see a therapist even if that seems uncomfortable and weird. It helps to have someone unbiased to open up to who won't go blabbing all of your secrets to the world. Big hugs!
