I Have Never Met Such Unbearable People In My LifeI lived in Texas for about a year and a half while my fiance was looking for work, and it was more than enough time for me. What does it for me is not the crappy weather, gross heat, terrible food selection, or the plain ugly landscape--thats only the cherry on top.
I cannot stand the people... They act like they never matured past the age of 15. The women are very two-faced, persnickety, and passive-aggressive. They have no sense of understanding anything outside themselves and are some of the most primative individuals ever.
Let me give an example of how this distaste first came into bloom. One night my fiance and I met with his parents for dinner. They unfortunately live in Texas because of work. His brother and his wife (who is from Texas) came over as well for dinner. As everyone was talking, she went into discussion over schools (she was pregnant with their first child) she suddenly went into conversation about special needs kids in classrooms with regular functioning kids. She firmly stated that "she does not want her kids to be around retards...they are distracting and should not be there..."
You could say I was shocked. Having a sibling with autism, I took that very personally, but beside the fact.... I could not believe such ignorant and insensitive thoughts could come from a mom-to-be.
This same woman went on to say, in future events, tounge-in-cheek jokes about how a silver bracelet I aquired from my fiance before we were engaged was ordinary. Mind you, I have never once done anything to this women to uncork such childish behavior.
The list goes on about such incidents, but this was only the beginning of outrageous observants I have made of people from this state.
Now being from California I have dealt with some characters, good and bad, but this "Texas pride" is ba
Also, the so-called "Texas Christians." Like another poster noted, is really laughable. The whole Christian religion is nothing but a cultural bandwagon down there. They all go to church as a way to socially mingle and rub elbows hoping to get jobs and other perks. From what I have noticed, the behavior away from "church," not just what happened to me, but what I observed around me is anything but. All I have to say is these are some of the most contradicting and judgemental people on the planet. The same housewife who puts "Jesus loves me" on her kids shirt will very easily turn around and trash talk about the whole neighborhood with her gal pals... and sadly enough vice versa. But hey that's how they do things round there in good 'ol Texas!
By the way, apparently in Texas if you get hired for part-time work, they can crank your hours up to 40 hours or more and still bypass paying workers benefits. So yes, even the laws there are jacked up.
I am happy to say I am back home in California. I am happy to say I finally feel like I am out of prison and can enjoy all the simple things of a state that is refreshing, normal, and has good everything! No more Tex-mex, no more Whataburger, no more desert plains, no more horrible and constricting people, no more annoying accents, no more everyone driving giant trucks because they think its the awesome Texas thing to do (and not because they use them for functional purpose), no more we only sell liquor in special liquor stores 30 minutes away, no more Texas s*** ever again.
And for all those thinking they have jobs there out the ying-yang, know they don't and their economy is a skewed fantasy oversaturated with people suckered into thinking there is jobs... They are no better off than the rest of the country...
I could create a list that would roll out the door and then some, but all I have to say everything you have heard about the state is true... I unfortunately witnessed it firsthand. They are deluded and the only thing big there are their empty heads. Do not ever go there... the state STRAIT up sucks...
