I Hate the Telephone
i hate the telephone more and more.
Usually because if I am at home doing something i really don't want someone to ring me and interrupt me. If I'm watching something on tv i want to watch it, not have to talk to someone about their problems all night ! I mean that! I used to spend hours talking to my friends about all their problems and after years of it , i just don't want to do it anymore.
If I'm eating my dinner, I want to eat it.
If I'm reading a book I want to read it. etc etc Not talk on the phone for the sake of it.
Most people who phone up are single without a partner so I guess for them they need the company.
When i lived on my own i used to just turn the phone down and let it go to voice mail.
But my husband is one of those people that when he hears the phone ring he has to answer it.
So when its for me he calls me and if i'm in the middle of watching something on tv i get really annoyed because if it was up to me i wouldn't have even answered it.
So this puts me in a position where he's calling me saying, its xxx on the phone, and i'm thinking tell them to phone back another time (like , never) and then I feel bad, or else i end up taking the phone and missing what i waited all evening to watch...
I don't get people that let the phone rule their lives.
Most of my friends know now that I hate the phone and they don[t ring up as much as they used to which is great by me!
I feel sorry for the person who posted the question who's family expect him or her to always be available. That would drive me crazy as i would feel like it was ruining my day to day life.
I'd just say, look, its nothing personal but I really get tired when i'get home and need some time to relax. can you phone me once a week or something? And if they say no, then they may have some sort of problem being on their own...
LIve your own life..you are not a telephone counsellor..unless you want to be...!
I think if I lived on my own i wouldn't have a landline phone.
Just a mobile then i could switch it off except when i wanted to..
Ok , that's it...
so remember, if you hate the phone, i probably hate it more!
